Natural newborn & family photography.
Relaxed, loving and authentic images.
We’ll spend an hour or so together in the comfort of your home, or at a beautiful outdoor location around Melbourne. Easy, fun moments, where all you need to do is love up on your little ones. I capture beautiful, natural and timeless photos for you to treasure this fleeting time.
“Jean is so lovely, she puts everyone at ease and makes the whole experience enjoyable (even to those shy of the camera). Her photos are beautiful! I highly recommend her to everyone and can't wait to have more photos taken in the future.”

So how does it work?
Lock it in
To you lock-in your session, I will ask for your session fee to be paid and contract signed. For newborn sessions, I pencil in your due date, and then we book in your final date after your little one arrives (aiming 6-14 days).
Prepare
Before your newborn or family session, I will send through my client info guide (with lots of info about how the session works and advise on clothing), and ask you to complete a questionnaire so I can learn a bit about your family!
Afterwards
After your session, I will hand edit your complete gallery. You will then have the opportunity to review the images, and decide on which package you would like.
Family + Newborn FAQ
Where are you based?
I’m based in inner-west Melbourne, but happy to travel throughout Melbourne and outskirts.
What style of photography can we expect?
I would describe my family sessions as lifestyle photography, aiming to tell a story of your lives in this moment. I utilise natural light, and whilst I may provide a little direction for positioning, I try to let things flow naturally and allow the chaos and fun to shine through. With newborns, I may do some gentle posing, but do not utilise props. If you have a lovely wrap or blanket, I will definitely incorporate these into the images.
What is the best age for newborn photos?
The best age for your newborn photos is generally around 6 – 14 days old. This is because your baby is still quite sleepy and snuggly. But as my focus is not on the ‘posed’ newborn shots, it’s never too late and we can still do your newborn session after this age.
Do you have any suggestions on what to wear?
Whatever you choose to wear should reflect who you are, and make you feel beautiful and confident. Soft colours, earthy tones and neutrals often work well, though a pop of colour can always look great! Try to complement each other, without being too matchy-matchy. Long flowy dresses are always great for women and girls, and simple t-shirts or shirts in neutral colours are great for men and boys. For newborns, it’s great to see their gorgeous little arms and legs, so a simple plain onesie or singlet is great.
Avoid black tops, bright pinks and purples, clothing with logos or really dramatic prints, and heavy watches/jewellery.
Mama Rentals has a beautiful range of maternity dresses you can hire here.
Where do sessions happen?
Newborn sessions occur in the comfort of your home. All other sessions can be either done in your home or in an outdoor location. I recommend all outdoor sessions are done at “golden hour”, which is usually within an hour or so after sunrise or before sunset. This is very dependent on the time of year – so get in touch and I can let you know what the best time will be.
Can I purchase prints or an album?
Yes, absolutely! I can organise prints for you, through a professional fine art lab in Australia. I can also work with you in putting together a beautiful flat-lay album, and we can organise grandparent albums too!
When do we receive our images?
I aim to deliver your final edited images via online gallery within 3 weeks.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Absolutely! Gifting a photography session is such a lovely idea for a new baby, birthday, Christmas or Mother’s/Father’s Day. Let me know what you’re after, and I’ll send through a lovely e-gift certificate.
How do we book you?
The first step is to fill out the contact form to let me know what package you’re after, a little bit about yourself and your family, and when you’d like to book. We can then lock in your session with your session fee. For newborn shoots, we don’t secure the date and time until your baby is born. I will keep your baby’s due date in my calendar, then when bub arrives we can book in the session.
Do you offer extended family sessions?
Yes I do! My family sessions are for immediate family only, so if you would like to include more family members (such as grandparents, aunties and uncles, etc.), we will book you in for an extended family session. These sessions cost an additional $100.
